Gallery project
By Hélène Dorny
The place des Bouchers is centrally located in the city, close to the town hall square. It connects the Tourist Office gallery to the Church Square, which provides access either to the heights of Barr or to the bottom of the city, towards Kirneck Street. However, the layout of the square lacks protected and covered spaces. It is around and under the generous plane that passers-by settle most frequently.Â
The developed project seeks to find a simple answer to implement while inscribing itself in the architecture of the city and respecting the arrangements already present on and around the square. Thus a new covered passage connects the lower gallery to the church square along the stone fortification wall. This new protected passage offers covered seats while having an overview of the square. Two circular kiosks, arranged as more convivial spaces, punctuate this deambulation and allow to activate the terraces already present, today somewhat neglected.
This new gallery will also allow the installation of stands at events organized by the city, for example during markets, or at festive events requiring covered spaces.Â
The architecture of the gallery consists of a light wooden structure reminiscent of the arcades of the Tourist Office and more generally, the vernacular Alsatian architecture. The wooden structure sits on a stone plinth at seat height, echoing the sandstone fortification wall of the Vosges. Finally, a roof made of Alsatian tiles will provide lasting protection for the new gallery while recalling the roofs of Barr.

Projet de galerie
By Luke Alcock
My project is a new covered gallery with regular markets that bring the area to life. To the east it ends in two pavilions overlooking the city walls with a new fountain. The lower part is stone with seating built into the pavilions. The main frame is a timber construction using details from the Alsace region with hand made tiles.
